A tribute to Irena Anders who died earlier today
Today, on 29th November 2010, we pay tribute to our patron Irena Anders who died at the age of 90. Irena was a Polish stage actress and singer; wife of General Władysław Anders, Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Forces during World War II.

During World War II she worked in the troupe of Henryk Wars belonging to the successful Theatre of the Polish Parade that gave performances for the Armed Forces in the West. She was one of the first singers to sing "Red Poppies on Monte Cassino". After the war she remained in the United Kingdom. She had given numerous performances broadcast by the BBC and Radio Free Europe. In 2003 a documentary film was made about her. In 2007 she received the Highest Order from the Polish government for outstanding achievement in the field of culture: the Gold Medal "Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis".
We are deeply saddened to learn of her passing today. She will always remain in our hearts and minds.
